About Us
Rockingham Nutrition and Meals on Wheels is about more than providing someone a meal. It is about giving someone the means to maintain a healthy, independent living situation. This includes helping them connect with other services they are in need of, keeping watch for even subtle changes that may be a sign of more serious issues to come, keeping family (especially distant family) abreast of any areas of concern, and more. With this philosophy, we have three main guiding principles we operate by:
“Integrity & Dependability you can count on”
When an individual is in need of a basic necessity such as food, they need that support now. That is why, RNMOW is proud to say, we have never had to wait-list people for meals. Our staff works hard to make this happen whether it is looking for ways to increase revenues to equal the demand or making every effort to control costs. It is a high priority of this agency to put the needs of our seniors first. And we are very grateful to all our funders and donors whose continual support is critical in the success of our mission.
“A Meal, Personal Contact, & Peace of Mind”
RNMOW prides itself on being more than just a hot, nourishing meal. In many cases our staff is the only person a clients sees each day. For these clients this contact is vital in keeping them connected to the outside world, to their community. Along with every meal delivered we perform a daily safety check. Safety checks provide each individual, their family, and their community “Peace of Mind” knowing that if there are concerns or emergencies RNMOW staff will contact the appropriate person for assistance. Our participants and their families have often expressed their appreciation for the early intervention that has prevented potentially more serious situations.
“Nourishing the Body & Soul”
Meals on Wheels is about nourishing the whole person. We all know it is important to eat properly to maintain our health. But it takes more than a healthy meal to make a difference in a person’s overall well-being. Our program also focuses on ways to help nourish the spirit of the individual with social contact. We offer monthly specials, provide various extras such as holiday favors, puzzles & other activities, and established a Santa for Senior program. We believe it takes this more holistic approach to truly have a profound impact of the people we are serving.
The Rockingham Nutrition and Meals on Wheels Program provides nutritious meals and beneficial support services to older and disabled residents of Rockingham County who need assistance to help them preserve long term health, well-being and independence.
