Job Description

The Hull Outfit Engineering Group entails the following responsibilities: Materials Evaluation, Strength, Mechanical Function; System Analysis/Trade-Off Analysis; Design Development; Calculations; Design Drawing/Manual/Product Review; Procurement Support; Production Support; Operational and Test Support all associated with problem solving in hull outfit disciplines including: General Arrangements; Habitability, Food Service, Personnel Support Spaces; Joiner Work, Insulation, Deck Covering; Access, Doors, Hatches, Scuttles; Ladders, Life Rails, Hull Fittings, Rigging; Store/Cargo/Vehicle Handling, and Stowage; Anchor Handling, Mooring, and Towing; UNREP; Boat Handling and Stowage, Lifesaving Equipment; Aviation Facilities; Hull Outfit Foundations/Method Mounts; Deck Machinery; Hull Castings.

Other duties include:

  • Work with Engineering Manager and Program Office to evaluate and prioritize workload requirements.
  • Report progress and status at various manager level meetings and Departmental White Boards, as required.
  • Responsible for the training and development of assigned personnel. Develop employee performance evaluations as required.
  • Analyze requirements and provide guidance to design for compliance in alignment with associated processes.
  • Analyze ship and equipment purchase specification requirements.
  • Manage projects, identify and resolve issues surrounding tasks.
  • Write reports and correspondence.
  • Travel to suppliers, customers, or other worksites.
  • Participate in or lead technical interchanges on issues with customers such as U. S. Navy (NAVSEA and Supervisor of Shipbuilding), Suppliers, Production workers and supervisors.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering required.
  • MS degree is preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • 10+ years experience in the maritime industry or time at sea required.

  • Detailed knowledge of ship specifications.

  • Innovative Leadership qualities, problem solving capabilities, and a strong passion for employee development required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow procedures, standards and work instructions required.

  • Past experience supervising technical employees (preferred).

  • Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities required.

  • Aptitude for problem solving.

  • Thorough knowledge of engineering tools and methods relating to Naval Architecture and Hull Outfit.

  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office tools.

  • Ability to develop trade studies, optimizations and hull outfit designs from requirements alone.

  • Willingness to work onboard ship, pier side or at sea, possibly in confined spaces, as well as in office environment.

  • Ability to acquire DoD Secret clearance (as needed).

  • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance . Y ou must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
