The Transit Planner - Scheduler is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and revision of the agency's transit operating schedule.

  • Executes scheduling software to develop individual schedules, vehicle blocking, run-cutting, and rostering, conforming to Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) parameters, available resources, and labor hour requirements.
  • Assists the Operations Department in administering the operator bid selection process.
  • Prepares statistical and route summary reports.
  • Coordinates with Planning and Operations on route development.
  • Ensures operator bid material and operational reports are provided by the deadline for each bid, in accordance with the rules and parameters stated in the CBA and scheduling committee.
  • Compiles data and prepares route summaries and descriptions of service changes.
  • Assists in ridership database management.
  • Monitors the Automatic Vehicle Location System, examining data for anomalies to ensure data quality.
  • Conducts field assessments to confirm running times, ridership, bus stop conditions, locations, and amenities.
  • Manages the agency's General Transit Specification Feed.
  • Distributes schedules and scheduling-related data, including route turn sheets, as required.
  • Resolves scheduling-related customer service issues.
  • Participates in public outreach processes.
  • Reviews turn lists and public schedules for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assists the Operations Department with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

*Education and/or Experience: *An Associate’s degree is required, though any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in urban/transportation planning, public administration, statistics, engineering, or a related field is preferred.

  • Ability to understand transit planning principles.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with the public and agency employees in various ways, including on the telephone, at meetings, one-on-one, and in writing.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Strong aptitude with technology and ability to learn new software.
  • Experience with database management software.
  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Computer proficiency with a high skill level in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google platform.
  • Ability to work well with co-workers and in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently.
