Job Overview

Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs), a form of microcredentialing, allow students to earn academic credit through diverse, hands-on experiences outside the conventional classroom with an emphasis on community-based career exploration. They are highly personalized opportunities for students to engage in learning in ways that make sense for them and connect their learning to everyday life in meaningful ways. ELOs are a unique mix of academic instruction and assignments, such as papers and presentations, and combine experiential learning components like project-based learning, internships, and job shadows.

The ELO Coach provides coaching, training, and programmatic support to Maine school districts related to Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs). This includes assisting in the development, onboarding, and support of new and existing schools utilizing the ELO approach as well as assisting in ongoing ELO training for faculty, staff, and, as applicable, businesses. Part of the ELO Coach's job may be in troubleshooting and communications.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support school personnel as they incorporate and implement the ELO approach in their districts.
  • Assist teaching staff, students, and business personnel in piloting, implementing, and incorporating the ELO approach in their schools and classrooms.
  • Provide in-person and virtual support sessions as needed to district personnel.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate training experiences at a statewide level.
  • Collect feedback and implement improvements to the JMG ELO Coaching model.
  • Assist in ELO promotion statewide, including assisting in developing ELO marketing materials as needed.
  • Collect required ELO data on an ongoing basis.

Working Conditions

This year-round, full-time position is primarily remote and will be based in a home office. Semi-frequent travel within in Maine may be required.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in ELOs and work-based learning for youth.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of the public education system, including familiarity with Maine Learning Standards
  • An interest in/passion for the ELO model and Maine education
  • You take pride in your work and are highly accountable.
  • You are energized by finding creative solutions to new situations.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field.

Benefits

Compensation for this position is $50,000. This position starts with 15 days of vacation time, 15 days of sick time, plus one additional week of COVID-19 time if needed. This role will also have an additional week of vacation at Christmas and an additional week of vacation the week of the Fourth of July holiday.
