The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Stationary Engineer to join our team in Bar Harbor, ME!

Under limited supervision, operates and performs preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on boilers, steam turbines, chillers, emergency generators, incinerators, fuel systems, and related equipment. Keeps detailed records, log sheets, and reports for internal use along with state and federal agencies. Provides rotating shift and weekend/holiday facilities coverage on a 24/7/365 basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates, cleans, and performs predictive, preventative & corrective maintenance on rotating and stationary equipment, to include high pressure boilers, steam turbines, industrial chillers, incineration equipment, emergency power generation, emergency fire pump, and all associated auxiliary equipment. Assists with the maintenance and operation of other facility systems as needed. Maintains all associated spaces at a high level of housekeeping cleanliness.
  • Continuously monitors various gauges and automatic recording devices at specified times to assess operating conditions; records operational data, to include equipment temperatures, pressures, hours of operation, fuel consumption, water levels, water consumption, and electrical production and usage. Tests and controls the chemistry of boiler water, condensate, and condenser tower water. Observes parameter trends and proactively responds to maintain a high level of plant reliability.
  • Operates boilers, electric distribution systems, chilled water production and other systems in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements to maintain the most efficient operating parameters necessary to meet the changing needs of the facility.
  • Enters technical information into a personal computer for the purpose of record keeping and preventative maintenance; uses and supports a computerized maintenance management system. Provides detailed written and oral reports as needed.
  • Acts as primary facilities maintenance and operations response personnel during second, third, and weekend shifts. Provides immediate diagnosis and remedy to plant issues and/or contacts formal on-call maintenance personnel for assistance. Operates in strict compliance with detailed watch stander rules of engagement and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Perform work with minimum supervision in its field.
  • Trains junior technicians.
  • Years of experience 4+
  • Minimum 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License
  • Able to create and comprehend technical documents including but not limited to blueprints, technical manuals, reports and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge in the operation and principles of high pressure boilers, chilled water production units, general water chemistry, electrical generating units, plumbing, HVAC, electronic controls, electrical distribution and associated systems.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • May require limited travel for training or support of other Laboratory facilities.
  • Performs other job duties up to individual skill level in any capacity as needed.
  • Requires on-call, rotating shift work including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Requires ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • Certification Requirements: 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License

Pay Range (Hourly Rate)

$27.07 - $41.57 base pay

Added Shift Differentials

On Call & Evening Shifts: +$3 per hour

Holiday Shifts: +$10 per hour

Weekend Shifts: +$2 per hour

*All mentioned differentials are cumulative*
