Rural Educator Resilience Project

The College of Education and Human Development Leader-in-Residence is responsible for recruitment, teaching, and administration related to programming in the Rural Educator Resilience Project. This project is designed to sustain and strengthen Maine’s teacher and school principal workforce, particularly in its most rural and isolated areas, with high-impact, evidence-based practices. This two-year, fixed-length position is funded by Congressionally- Directed Spending allocated to the University of Maine.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration (60%)

· Co-design two-year program of supports for rural school leaders in collaboration with Educational Leadership Faculty

· Lead recruitment of rural school and teacher leaders for program participation

· Collaborate with Director of Field Experiences and Teacher Preparation and Director of the Center for Applied Research on Education and Schools with building relationships with schools for research and practice partnerships

· Organize annual convening focused on rural school leadership for Educational Leadership students and external stakeholders in collaboration with the New England Rural Education Hub

· Support Educational Leadership program development and curriculum refinement to respond to needs from the field

· Coordinate with other strands of CDS work (Teacher Leadership and New Teacher Induction)

Teaching (40%)

· Teach 1 course, or the equivalent of 3 credits, per semester in the Educational Leadership program

· Organize and lead professional development sessions

· Visit, mentor, and coach school leader fellows in alignment with course and program expectation

· Support COEHD faculty instruction through guest lecturing and occasional co-teaching

· Facilitate small group coaching with program fellows

· Serve as a reader on dissertation committees

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Earned Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Education or related field

● Minimum (3) years of experience as a school or district administrator

● Minimum (3) years of experience as a pK-12 educator

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience coaching adult learners

· Familiarity with the University of Maine Educational Leadership program

· Experience working with rural schools and communities in Maine

· Experience successfully coordinating with cross-sector stakeholders

· Understanding of the current Maine educational policy landscape

· Communicates a clear philosophy of equitable rural school leadership
